Application Deadline: May 3, 2012

Synopsis:  This is the Engine Company class you’ve been waiting for!  This is NOT a Firefighter I hose class, and it’s not a master streams drill!  This is an intense two-day hands on program focusing on safe but aggressive interior & offensive fire attack, with a focus on controlling fire behavior.  The skills & techniques presented were developed by the instructor, and subsequently adopted as standard training for the entire Seattle Fire Department.

The program is quickly gaining national attention because it is designed for senior & experienced firefighters and officers.  This is the class that you will take home and change the way your engine takes care of business!

Recent Nozzle Forward classes have used over a half-million gallons of water, with students moving over 20,000 feet of hose in interior attack scenarios.  Want to see what this class is all about?  Check out the instructor’s recent articles on www.FireServiceWarrior.com or in Issue 6 of www.UrbanFirefighter.com.  Here's a sample of what you'll participate in:

Lead Instructor:  The lead instructor is Aaron Fields, a firefighter for the City of Seattle.  Between his dad, brother, and himself, there is nearly always a Fields member on watch somewhere in the 5th Battalion.  Aaron rides backwards on Engine Company 33, and is usually found with a nozzle in his hands.  When not riding the engine or raising his kids he teaches at Engine Company skills at the Washington State Fire Academy.  Aaron will be making his way up the East Coast to teach this program straight from presenting at Andy Fredericks Training Days in Virginia.  “Vado Canis Vado”… Go Dog Go!

2nd Annual NH 9-11 Memorial Stair Climb

Apr 19, 2012 (10:33:00)
Save the date!  The Fire Instructors and Officers Association of New Hampshire (FIOANH) is very excited to announce that we have been approved by the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation to host the second annual New Hampshire 9-11 Memorial Stair Climb.  Last year we chose to host the Climb to mark the 10th Anniversary of 9-11 and remember our fallen brothers and our expectations were far exceeded; we were the ONLY NFFF 9-11 Stair Climb held in New England and raised over $24,000 for NFFF!

Firefighters ascending 110 stories during the NH 9-11 Memorial Stair Climb on 9-11-11.This year the Climb will be held on September 9, 2012 in Manchester, NH, and will offer local firefighters, thier families, and members of the public the opportunity to commemorate the 11th anniversary of the September 11th attack on the World Trade Center by repeating the footsteps of our 343 fallen FDNY Brothers in climbing 110 stories.  The first 343 registrants will have the special honor of carrying the photograph of one of our fallen brothers.

Share in this special event to show each other and the rest of the world that the sacrifice made by fellow Firefighters will never be forgotten.  Online registration will be announced soon!

If you'd like to contribute to the event, either by volunteering your time or through a donation, please contact FIOANH Vice President Bill Campbell at bill@nh9-11stairclimb.org.  Check www.fioanh.org or www.nh9-11memorialstairclimb.org for more information as the event draws nearer.

Congratulations to the 2011 Ayers and Carver Award Recipeints!

Apr 07, 2012 (19:09:00)

The FIOANH's 2011 John T. Ayers Fire Instructor of the Year Award and Peter J. Carver Fire Officer of the Year Award were presented at the 20th Annual New Hampshire Fire & Emergency Medical Services Committee of Merit Awards Ceremony held on Wednesday, September 28th, 2011.  The ceremony took place at the New Hampshire Fire Academy.

The 2011 John T. Ayers Fire Instructor of the Year Award was presented to Chief Christopher T. Silver, Hampton Fire/Rescue.  Chief Silver was nominated in recognition of his longstanding commitment to improving fire service education in New Hampshire, throughout New England, and beyond.

Chief Silver is an instructor at the New Hampshire Fire Academy, the Interstate Emergency Unit, Safe-IR, and is a Hands-On Training Program Instructor at Fire Department Instructors Conference (FDIC).  He co-authored the New Hampshire Rapid Intervention certification program and has been involved in numerous other aspects of program development.  Chief Silver's teaching style of delivering a high quality education with great respect for the student has positively impacted countless firefighters while simultaneously mentoring the next generation of instructors.

The 2011 Peter J. Carver Fire Officer of the Year Award was presented to Battalion Chief Guy T. Newbery, Concord Fire Department.  Chief Newbery was nominated in recognition of his over 31 years of service and his dedicated leadership as a Shift Commander.

Chief Newbery is well known as an exceptional Incident Commander.  He is also known to be fair but demanding of those under his command.  He demonstrates his concern for all current members and retirees of the department though his leadership of the Concord Firefighters Relief Association.  Chief Newbery is said to embody the values that we all seek in a leader: fairness, integrity, commitment, compassion, deep pride in the department and fire service, technical expertise, and unrelenting devotion to his community and coworkers.

Please join the Board of Directors in congratulating this year's two very deserving recipients!
